Sweet Revenge

For the first time since the Return of the Jedi re-release, I walked out of a Star Wars screening satisfied. "Revenge of the Sith" was a fitting conclusion to Lucas' saga. At times, it was quite intense. It is a galaxy far, far away form "The Phantom Menace," which seemed to have target audience of boys 7 to 10 years old. This was a grown-up movie. In fact, I would even caution parents to preview it before taking the kids, to judge whether the sometimes gruesome violence might be a bit too much for their younglings.
Mostly, the plot was fairly predictable, which is not a complaint at all. We all knew what was coming this time around. One surprise was how much had passed since the end of Episode 2. Now I really do need to go back and watch the Cartoon Network "Clone Wars" series to fill in the gaps.
The 'net certainly doesn't need another movie reviewer, so I'll cut this short. Let it suffice to say that I believe the final chapter of Star Wars is well on it's way to record setting success.

Midweek Mirth: What's a Trekkie to do?

OK, it's way too serious around here. Everybody just needs to lighten up. So I'm going to dedicate one post a week, probably on Wednesday's, to a bit of fun, humor, or general wackiness. So to kick it off, here are 10 suggestions for how Trekkies can keep busy while the rest of us celebrate the release of the final Star Wars tonight.

Ten Things for Trekkies to Do at 12:01 Tonight

1.) Catch a Red Eye Flight to join the Distribution heads of Paramount, Sony, and Universal on their vacations. (True story!)
2.) Make fun of those loser geeks who've been camped outside the theater for weeks... in Klingon.
3.) Compare the size of each other's spaceship.
4.) Write another letter to the president of CBS in attempt to save Enterprise.
5.) Sneak into premiere parties and sabotage photo ops.
6.) Apply a new bumper sticker which reads: "Guns don't kill people, Type 2 Phasers kill people."
7.) Leave insulting comments at Darth Vader's 'Blog.
8.) Lose more sleep trying to forget Leonard Nimoy's music video.
9.) Beat up a poor, helpless petitioner. (Movie requires the divx codec.)
10.) Give it up, and join the rest of us at a screening of "Revenge of the Sith." Or at least move out of your Mom's basement...

(Working Title)

All right, I slacked off this morning. Nothing in the news struck me right today, so in lieu of the usually summary/commentary, here's a recent post from my other favorite blog on the importance of movie titles: A Movie By Any Other Name.
I'll try to have something special for you tomorrow.

Weekend Box Office Results - May 13-15

Early estimates put the gross for the top ten films combined at $92 Million, down $8.5 Million from last year this time. I was wrong about Kicking & Screaming, since Monster-in-Law took the top position. I blame it on family audiences holding out for Star Wars this weekend. Hopefully my predictions will get better as we continue from week to week.
That also makes for another film to beat the opening for Kingdom of Heaven, which dropped to less than half it's premiere levels. In other news, there will be No Prize next Monday for guessing the upcoming Number One at the box office. Anyone who gets it wrong will receive a one-way ticket back to the farm. They'll need your help with the Moisture Vaporators.
