Box Office recap

I took yesterday off. I needed it. It was a rough weekend for my box office picks.

1.)Had I done my research properly and realized that The Honeymooners was only opening in 1912 theaters, I might have made some better calls. Still, I really can't explain my lack of insight on that one. Of course Robert Rodriguez's latest 3D kid's pic, the follow-up to the Spy Kids franchise, would be a bigger hit!

2.) The Longest Yard is still trailing behind it's opening day match-up Madagascar. Perhaps I over-estimated Adam Sandler's draw. With a nearly 50% drop in total gross this weekend, I'd say The Longest Yard is looking at an ever shortening run. Also, it would make sense that the family audiences would be less likely to fight for opening weekend seats for the new cartoon, so there were still plenty to show up this past weekend. But with Batman Begins coming this week, I don't think Madagascar will hold out quite as well.

Finally, kudos to anime pic Howl's Moving Castle, which despite it's limited release took the number two spot for it's per-theatre average, beat only by Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
